Dear brothers and sisters,

The Good Friday falls on April 2nd this year, commemorating the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus for our sins. The three congregations will have online Good Friday Service in Cantonese, Putonghua and English respectively.

Before Easter, many UK churches would observe the 40 days of Lent through fasting, giving, prayer, repentance and self-denial to prepare one’s body, mind and soul to commemorate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for our sins.

The Chinese churches seldom emphasize Lent to avoid the temptation of falling into ritual behaviour and selfrighteousness, or comparing and competing among believers. But during this time of home isolation, let us look up to the Lord Jesus and His cross with a quiet heart, and to learn the simple living of the early church.

Let us prepare our heart and money before Easter, caring for our neighbours, serving others at any time in secret, making time to pray and get close to the Lord in secret, seeking His kingdom and His righteousness. Let us learn to pray the Lord’s Prayer, ‘Our Father in heaven…’. Let us train ourselves physically and control our diet, we can eat less or fast, give up meat or sweets, and strive to discipline ourselves, so that we can witness Jesus and share the gospel more freely, glorifying God.

That day, by the Sea of Galilee, the resurrected Lord softly asked, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?’ Today, this cordial call is still ringing in our ears and hearts, ‘Do you love me more than these?’

In Him,

Sam Wong
