Dear brothers and sisters,

‘The LORD called you a thriving olive tree with fruit
beautiful in form.’ (Jeremiah 11:16)

I have changed the tyres twice recently. Cars are prone to
tear and wear as the roads are bumpy and there are hidden
nails too. Tyre rupture is an accident but also expected.
Good maintenance is our duty.
Thank God that the first incident happened after I sent Carys
to school. As I was waiting for the car rescue, I suddenly
wanted to give it a try myself. I put a sign by the car, put on
a fluorescent vest and escalated my car. I then remembered
on a certain Sunday, my tyre blew out when I was on the
way to preach in England. I changed the tyre by the road
wearing my suit with a white shirt and tie. Praise the Lord, I
was on time to the Sunday Service in the afternoon. …
When I was troubled at removing the tyre, the rescue car
came at the right time.
Then I changed the bicycle liner. I thought of asking a
brother for help, but then I put it in my ‘bucket list’. Last
week I watched the Youtube on how to change the tyre liner
with Carys. It looked simple, but was actually quite hard. I
was concentrating on the task and did not notice Carys took
a picture of me and asked, ‘Grand-dad, why is there water on
your forehead?’ Yes, it’s very precious, the sweat of joy. I
enjoyed the process.
In last Sunday Service, we came across this verse: ‘There
are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the
other on its left.’ I have thought of buying a olive tree
seedling last year, but worried that there’s limited space in
the garden. The vision of this Scripture has opened my eyes
and mind. Olive tree can be an indoor plant. I can put the pot
of olive tree by the lamp stand. How nice!
That year, in the garden of Gethsemane, I was looking at the
thousand-year-old olive trees. They are still living there to
witness our Lord Jesus. By a huge rock not far away was a
carving of the kneeling Jesus. ‘My Father, if it is possible,
may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you
will.’
I long to be like a flourishing olive tree, trusting in God’s
unfailing love forever and ever. (Psalm 52:8)

May you live well, look after each other and take care of the
earth.

In Him,

Sam Wong
