1st August, 2020.

Dear brothers and sisters,

We had a workshop on ‘The origin of the British Chinese Church’ in the Micah Bible Study on 28/7. We can see the power and grace of God through His building up of the Chinese Church in Britain, and we offer our thanks and praises to Him.

From the recorded history of the 18th Century, the first Chinese who settled in Britain had come to know the Lord in a local church. A mass immigration wave started in the 20th Century, with the Siyi people from Guangdong, then the Hakka people from Hong Kong, followed by overseas students from Hong Kong and Singapore and Malaysia, then the Vietnamese Chinese; and, with the opening of Mainland China, visiting scholars, overseas students, and Fujian workers.

The Chinese Churches in Britain share the Gospel to Chinese people of different ethnic groups in different generations. ‘Where the Chinese are, there Christ Jesus is’. It is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.

On 23/7 (Thursday), the British government announced that 2,900,000 Hong Kong people holding British National (Overseas) passports can apply for residence in the UK to find work from January 2021. This makes immigration to the UK a hot topic on the Hong Kong Internet. Let us pray for the church and ask God to unite us all to proclaim the Gospel.

‘ … who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?’  Esther 4:14

In Him,

Sam Wong
